The Ideal Palace (Le Palais Idéal), is a impressive construction, built by a French postman, Ferdinand Cheval (1836-1924). Cheval began the building in April 1879, using stones that he was collecting while delivering mails. He did this for 33 years, and most of the time he was working at night, helped by the light from oil lamps.

These cave homes are located in Kandovan, in the North East of Iran, at the border with Azerbaijan, and are supposed to be over 700 years old.
The house are built in the Mount Sahand, a volcanic mountain. Most of them have two storeys: one for the animals, and one for the people to live in. If the house has more than two story, the last ones are used for storage.

Sorry I couldn’t find any more information about this project, only pictures with the house built from recycled bottles. Anyway, it’s looking good, right? I heard some guy built his own island from recycled plastic bottles, maybe this will be a future post.
