How to spoil your plants with.. water

Posted by Bogdan on February 20, 2010 | No Comments

Did you know the most important thing to keep you flowers growing happy all the time? Water them properly. Some flowers need to be watered less than once a week while others need to be watered every day. An apartment palm, for example, needs his leaves sprayed with water every day. Usually, people tend to use water straight from the sink for their plants. It’s good, of course. But you can also add some ingredients in it to make it even better (there are all kind of products in the store for this).

But did you know, that the best water plants can get is.. rain water? Just think about it: in the wild, they don’t have water from the sink, or special ingredients for growing or shining. They only got .. rain. Rain BarrelBut rain harvesting is not always an easy job, especially if you have a large garden. Some people thought about this and now we have rain barrels:  a large plastic barrel that you position under your water pipe, with a tap at the bottom for easy use.  Don’t worry about the design of these rain water barrels, you’ll have a lot of options to choose from: shape, size, color, material.

If you consider yourself a handy man you can easily build one yourself, from an usual barrel, but if you are the lazy type, don’t worry, there are online stores where you can find rain barrels for sale.

How to keep your kids occupied

Posted by Bogdan on February 19, 2010 | 3 Comments

It is told that everybody loves kids. Who doesn’t like kids, it’s probably because they drool, and poo and spit their food. I personally don’t like kids for the reasons I mentioned.  Once they past that disgusting period, I start to like them. For certain reasons, of course: they tell things that you wouldn’t expect from a small creature like that. Things that you discovered so recent in your .. 20, 30, 40 years of life.

But once they know they can get your attention by saying a lot of things, that you mind find interesting, they won’t stop. FOR NOTHING!!! They will talk with you all day long. They will ask you questions about tv producers, how they were made, the difference between girls and boys etc. You’ll buy them a lot of toys to keep them occupied, but it won’t last for long: soon they’ll ask you how the toys were made and why the soldiers are green and why boys wear blue and girls pink.

Stand Up SwingI found recently that a good way to keep them occupied, for a longer time, is to install them a swingset.  If you have a garden and you can set up a small space for your kid, go to a playground equipment store, or consider viewing an online store, where you can choose from a large number of swing sets: porch swing, stand up swings, gliders, buoy ball swings. If you don’t have the necessary budget, you can do one yourself: get an old tire, hook it up to a large branch with a solid chain and there you go: you just made a tire swing.

If you get jealous with your kids, don’t worry, you can always find bigger ones for adults.

The Ideal Palace of the French postman

Posted by Bogdan on February 9, 2010 | 1 Comment

The Ideal Palace (Le Palais Idéal), is a impressive construction, built by a French postman, Ferdinand Cheval (1836-1924). Cheval began the building in April 1879, using stones that he was collecting while delivering mails. He did this for 33 years, and most of the time he was working at night, helped by the light from oil lamps.

First he was carrying stones in his pockets, later he used a basket and finally a wheelbarrow. He used lime, mortar and cement to bound the stones together.

After finishing his Ideal Palace, Cheval spent another 8 years to build a mausoleum for him in the cemetery of Hauterives, the same town where the palace is built.

The palace is considered the only example of naive architecture.

If you ever want to visit Le Palais Ideal, is located in Hauterives, near Lyon, in France.

Home decorated with blackboards

Posted by Bogdan on February 8, 2010 | 4 Comments

If you ever wanted to decorate your home with blackboards, this example is great for the “note freaks”, or for families with kids, that can write with chalk instead of markers on furniture, walls and cabinets.

You can forget about the fridge magnets, hundreds of post-its or notes left on the breakfast table.  Just think about it, you can left a message everywhere you want! A big “REMEMBER” in the kitchen, a eye catching “Pay the bills” on the wall, a big wallpaper with the Family portrait drawn by your son/daughter in the living room.

House built from recycled materials

Posted by Bogdan on February 5, 2010 | 3 Comments

This awesome house was built only from recycled materials. As you can see in the pictures, it has a small wood bridge, that takes you to another house tree.

Another cool thing is the wall covered with broken mirrors that creates a strange effect of huge space (don’t be fooled).

The ceiling looks amazing on both sides, interior and exterior. Outside it looks like it’s waving or it’s made of rubber.
