Stainless steel – then and now

Posted by elutzik on November 13, 2009 | No Comments

The stainless steel was discovered in the 1900, decades after the French metallurgist Pierre Berthier found in 1821 that iron alloyed with chromium was resistant to some acids. In the years 1094-1911 researchers prepared alloys that would create what we now call stainless steel.

Due to its high-oxidation and corrosion resistance the newly-discovered alloy was used during World War I to manufacture valves for aircraft engines and years later began to be used more for cookware, cutlery, surgical scalpels, major appliances, tools and buildings. Nowadays there are very few buildings that don’t have a stainless steel base structure, which makes them very resistant and allows constructors to build impressive sky-scrapers.

The last decade has been its highest peek, because of the popularity gained thanks to the companies that produce items and accessories like stainless steel mailboxes and stainless steel fireplace accessories. They are not only resistant, but can also give your home or garden a more modern and contemporary look.

If I were to choose something for my home in order to make more modern i would definitely choose this blomus stainless steel mailbox for my doorway and this fireplace for my living room.
