Known as bawdi or baoli in India, the wells with stairs are amazing constructions, where the access to the water is made by multiple stairs with narrow steps. The first architectural wonders of this kind were built back in 200 b.Ch. in the Western India and remained an unique attraction for this area. Nowadays, this kind of wells can be found only in India and a few regions in Pakistan. In the Medieval times, a large number of maharajahs built bawdi on their domains. In Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh hundreds remains were found.
But the deepest and largest well, and in very good shape is Chand Baori, built in the IX century in Abhaneri, Rajasthan, mirroring the Harshat Mata Temple. The well has 3500 steps, 13 stories and a depth of 30m.
